![]() ![]() S6 part 2 has too many villains and Bagramon doesn't get enough screentime to really develop. Season 6 part one arguably has DarkKnightmon, but he doesn't get a focused 'arc'. ![]() You could make an argument for one of the 4 evil legendary warriors perhaps? Season 5 is the only other series that I think comes close to having another strong arc+strong villain combination (Kurata). Season 4 dropped the ball on writing and also gave us the two worst villains ever, and Lucemon's appearance was too brief to be an 'arc'. ![]() Season 2 was overall poorly written, Season 3 had good writing but no strong 'face' for its arcs (Beelzebumon is usually thought of as an antihero instead of a villain). Notably, though, it would be a long time before another well-written story arc with a properly charismatic villain like Vamdemon would come along. So while Vamdemon himself isn't -that- deep of a villain, his presence created the best stories. The characters started coming into their own, awakening crests and the like, relationships deepened, we meet the kids' families, all of those things are associated with the looming threat of Vamdemon. Devimon is hardly present, and Etemon is literally a joke. There's some good exploration of the Digital World, but very little character growth, and very little in terms of interesting plot points. The episodes before Vamdemon showed up are all kinda awful in terms of pacing and stakes. He's the face of the arc where Digimon Adventure started getting -good. I think the reason Vamdemon is as popular as he is comes down to simple timing. ![]()
